ASD Diversamente Marinai
The amateur sports association Differently Marinai (ASD DM) was founded in August 2011 by Luca Agujari, Marco Marmeggi, Losan Piatti and Tommaso Scalsi who decided to share their passion for the sea and sailing by transforming the boat Velagodete in a floating laboratory of opportunities for social integration and the enhancement of youth professionalism.
The founding idea of ASD DM consists in believing that barriers and challenges – socio-economic, cultural, physical and mental – can be overcome thanks to an existential approach based on courage and solidarity .
Differently, Marinai means being convinced that diversity is not a limit, but rather a stimulus and that opening up to discussion contributes to having a profound impact on the quality of one’s life.
The sailing boat represents an ideal environment, in which each “sailor” measures himself against his own limits and those of others, trying to face them together, making his own skills and abilities available to create concrete proposals by trying to live, collaborate, work – and navigate – better together .
The experience of sailing, where everyone is an active participant in the management of a space and a common objective , represents a context of real social inclusion , highly stimulating with a view to developing the autonomy of young people, even disabled people.
For this reason, the ASD DM aims to generate a culture of social integration among disadvantaged subjects – young and disabled – through the promotion and creation of networks of concrete, positive and successful experiences, between various public and private organizations in the Tuscan territory .
Our objectives:
- Contribute to the creation of a network between the various disabled and non-disabled associations in the Tuscan and extra-regional area, to jointly create training courses and professional, sporting, recreational, cultural, artistic activities linked to the world of sailing;
- Involve and collaborate with local authorities at municipal, provincial and regional level and with their networks of territorial associations for the creation of training and inclusive courses for the most disadvantaged categories;
- Generate a micro-industry of professional figures linked to the world of sailing and the various activities that revolve around it: educators, psychologists, social workers, skippers, athletes, web designers, graphic designers, computer scientists, photographers, video makers, musicians, project managers, event organizers, set designers, actors, dancers, tour operators, etc.;
- Raise awareness, through the use of local media, of a large audience – mainly Tuscan – on issues such as youth autonomy, social inclusion, research and creation of professional opportunities, promotion of the rights of disabled people and other categories disadvantaged, including young people who are not necessarily disabled, the ambition for a dignified quality of life in terms of services and professional opportunities for them.
