Cancelled events, loss of revenues, limited physical activity: these the main issues to be faced by the sport sector due to COVID-19 outbreak.

As already stress by EPSI and other 42 organizations in our recent Position Paper signed in the framework of the SHARE Initiative, the entire sports sector and its stakeholders have been heavily hit by the COVID-19 crisis

In order to exchange information, discuss measures and possible support on the EU level, the Croatian Presidency of the European Union convened today a VTC of Sport Ministers, chaired by the Croatian Central State Office for Sport (Središnji državni ured za šport).

As reported by the Official Website of the Croatian Presidency of the Council, EU sport ministers held this video conference to discuss the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the sport sector, exchanging views and experiences on several topic and discussing, first of all, specific measures foreseen or already in place to support the sport sector.

Moreover, they talked about how to ensure the continuity of athletes’ training and enhance the physical activity of citizens while at the same time ensuring their safety and limiting the spreading the virus.

Sport is indeed communities coming together. And through sharing experiences, good practices and ideas, countries can contribute to jointly overcoming the complex challenges of COVID-19 on the sport sector.
