Limerick Institute of Technology (LIT) is an institution of higher education in Limerick, Ireland and is one of 14 member institutions of the Technological Higher Education Association (THEA). The Institute has campuses in Limerick city, one in both Thurles and Clonmel in County Tipperary and a regional learning centre in Ennis, County Clare. The main campus is located at Moylish Park adjacent to Thomond Park and houses the Faculty of Applied Science, Engineering and Technology and the Faculty of Business and Humanities. The School of Art & Design is located at the Clare Street and Clonmel campuses.
LIT offers courses at Level 6 (certificate) through Level 10 (PhD) whilst also catering for craft apprentices and adult and continuing education. The Institute has twice been named as The Sunday Times Institute of Technology of the Year in The Sunday Times University Guide, firstly in 2008 and again in 2013.
In the field of Sport LIT has a dedicated Department of Sport offering programmes in Sports Management, Sports Coaching & Development and Strength & Conditioning. It has dedicted sports faciliates at both it Moylish and Thurles campus, with the Thurles campus hosting a dedicated Sports Lab with leading edge technology and equipment.


LIT prepares learners for fulfilling and challenging futures, fostering the professional, intellectual, social, cultural and personal development of the individual. The hallmark of our educational philosophy is active learning through a fusion of theory and practice. We provide third and fourth level education, training and research, playing a pivotal role in the economic and socio-cultural development of our region. The Department of Sport is dedicated to providing the relevant skills and competencies to deal with the real world challenges students will encounter in the workplace. The Department of Sport offers programmes leading to qualifications in Sports Strength & Conditioning, Sports Management and Sports Development and Coaching.

Programmes are at Honours Degree (Level 8), Ordinary Degree (Level 7) and Higher Certificate (Level 6), with durations of study being 2, 3 and 4 years. All our Level 6 and 7 programmes offer graduates an opportunity to continue on to gain an Honours Degree (Level 8).
LITs Sports Strength & Conditioning programme is delivered by experienced industry professionals in purpose built facilities and our Sports Management and Sports Development & Coaching programmes combine the best of sport, business and management.

FESI, the Federation of the European Sporting Goods Industry, is the unique Brussels-based European organisation that represents the interests of some 1,800 European sporting goods manufacturers to the European political institutions, other international sport federations and other associations.Organised around eleven operational working committees, where all FESI regular and associated members play an active role, we have also expanded our activities to other European organisations such as the European Committee for Standardisation (CEN), Business Europe and other international / European sports federations.

Sports & Technology

The Sports and Technology cluster is a non profit organisation and includes more than 100 SME companies, working in several field of sports. The cluster incorporates 9 (sport) field labs in the region, located around (top) sport facilities. FieldLabs are research and development locations in a real-life sports setting where new ideas, concepts, technologies and products are developed/tested in cooperation between sports, knowledge organisations and companies. Field labs have been developed for gymnastics, swimming, equestrian sports, soccer, sports for the disabled and sports stimulation.

Flanders' Bike Valley

The Flanders’ Bike Valley Cluster brings together actors in the field of bicycle & cycling sciences and technologies: public research organizations, private companies and specialized service providers in a Quadruple Helix format, including strategic stakeholders. The Cluster is managed by experienced entrepreneurial managers with roots in business development and cycling industries. Flanders’ Bike Valley’s infrastructure includes a common wind tunnel testing facility for athletes, products, etc. for wind speeds until 30 m/sec or 110 km/hr for cyclists, ski and Alpine Sports etc. and an Incubator for start-ups, new companies etc. As an emerging cluster, the mission of the Flanders’ Bike Valley Cluster is to actively participate in building a successful ecosystem that will attract and retain companies and laboratories that are active in the bicycle and cycling field contributing to boosting innovation, economic performance and employment.

All the undergraduate courses consist of 4 years of study and in that period each student gains 240 ECTS credits. Students with higher ambitions have the opportunity to continue their studies and earn additional 60 ECTS (300 ECTS altogether) at master’s degree.
Faculty of Sport in Belgrade, in addition to the regular academic education, is also oriented to informal types of education through implementation of the programs of vocational training for performing certain professional tasks in sport. Our aim is to keep this part of the educational process of sports experts at high level and thus contribute to the improvement and development of Serbian sport.
Vocational training programs were introduced in the obligatory practice of sports organizations and higher education institutions in Serbia due to the large number of former athlete and current sports workers, who perform a wide range of activities in the field of sports, but have no formal education. Basically, they need vocational training for the acquisition of the working permit, which allows them to work in sports organizations, in accordance with the law.
The method of gaining the appropriate sports titles is clearly determined by the applicable legal and regulatory provisions and includes the fulfillment of certain formal-legal and educational and professional requirements and criteria. It is realized through joint work and cooperation with sport organizations and higher education institutions in the field of sport and physical education.
