EPSI promotes sport as a mean of regional development. This event, taking place in Brussels next 9th October, follow the same spirit.
In the framework of the European Week of Regions and Cities (7th-10th October), a specific workshop about sport will be organised in Brussels, focusing on the role of sport for active and healthy communities. The workshop will take place the 9th October.
Sport and physical activity for local and regional development has recently gained increased importance at EU level. It makes a direct contribution to regional economic activity and social cohesion by encouraging innovation, sustainable development and urban regeneration as well as enhances the overall attractiveness of regions. The workshop will focus on the role of sport for active and healthy communities through both political messages and best practice examples on the contribution of sport to the five investment priorities for Cohesion Policy beyond 2020.
The European Week of Regions and Cities is is an annual four-day event during which cities and regions showcase their capacity to create growth and jobs, implement European Union cohesion policy, and prove the importance of the local and regional level for good European governance.. It is co-organised by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy (DG REGIO) and the European Committee of the Regions (CoR).
