Paris was the city of women’s empowerment in sports events from the 4th to the 6th of April. The Capital of France, indeed, hosted last week an EWSE Transnational Project Meeting and a Multiplier Sport Event, organized by the Alice Milliat Foundationas part of this project. EPSI attended the event to go further with the project’s goals which are focused on establishing a network of women’s sporting events in Europe that can increase the beneficial social, economic, and cultural effects on women in sports.
During the Olympic and Paralympic Week 2023, a “sports festival” was organised combining sporting events, conferences, and workshops for co-development. The festival aimed to promote inclusion in sports and encourage physical activity among people of all ages, abilities and, of course, women.
The event on the 5th of April was the occasion to raise the issue of woman’s participation and empowerment in sports occurrences, as well as the importance of organizing events dedicated to women and their representation in media in this regard. Participants attended a conference-debate on the organisation of women’s and mixed sports events.
Two were the objectives of the event: bringing together structures and women organisers of women’s sports events from various European nations while providing a forum for discussion, raising awareness, and sporting challenges for women and young girls who are not currently involved in sports.
Partners who shared their experiences on the topic have been:
- Rachel Sinott from the Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA), organiser of the event
- Martina Paccagnella and Elisabetta Torresin, organisers of “Ragazze Nel Pallone”, Italy’s largest women’s sports festival
- Tiphaine Poulain, co-founder of Sine Qua Non, an association for the recovery of women’s public space through sport.
The event ended with an open discussion among participants regarding possible difficulties in organizing and managing sports events and the changes to be made to solve these difficulties. The next transnational project meeting and multiplier sports event will be on the 26th and 27th of June, in Brussels, hosted by EPSI.
