The IBV is a Spanish Research and Development Centre founded in 1976. It is jointly sponsored by the Institute for the Small and Medium Valencian Industry (IMPIVA) and the University of Polytechnic of Valencia (UPV). Located in the Campus of the University of Polytechnic, it applies the results generated by its research to the local industry environment. At present, the number of employees 135 (95 as staff and 40 as collaborates). It works under the legal figure of a non profit association. At present IBV develops activities in different research fields: · Orthopaedic Implants for surgery,· Technical aids for disabled people,· Footwear,· Sport surfaces and sports equipment,· Furniture,· Ergonomics of the workplace· Instrumentation. The Material and Equipment for Sports and Leisure department of the IBV, is integrated by a multi- discipline team formed by mechanical, materials and electronics engineers and sports science experts. Activities of this Area aim at applying biomechanics in the study, testing and development of equipment for sports practice. This includes working in different fields of knowledge and lines of research as impact analysis, thermal and mechanical comfort, human movement analysis, morphology, emotional engineering, probabilistic analysis and simulation among others. The IBV is member of most prestigious national and international Sports equipment bodies and the International Society of Sports Surfaces or the International Society of Sports Engineering. It is also involved in European Normalisation committees and is a turf testing laboratories of FIFA and UEFA.
